A little girl grabs the therapist's hand and walks her towards the sheep… A child witnesses the farmer shearing sheep, he nicks a sheep and the child reacts to the sight of blood. The therapist moves the child away and sits on a bale of hay with her. The child then explains she saw her mother's suture line from breast cancer that morning in the shower. Her fears are validated and they move on to feed the goats. A boy is so tired from grief all he wants or needs is to be with others who understand; he lays on the couch beside the fire for most of the session holding the bunnies and having private chats about his Dad's heart attack and sudden death. He finds personal time within the group process. About The Location - The Pig House "Why you could sleep here!" - Quote from a 6 year old boy who was thoroughly fascinated by the building - after he felt this safe, he went on to explain details of a mother and father getting a divorce. "You took away the monsters…" - Stated a child who was 9 years old and had been in 11 Foster homes - after an extended period of time in-group and private therapy. The Pig House now has a happy monster in sea glass! (see photo this page) Working in-group process is not for everyone. Some people find group less intense than private counselling or therapy. Often our clients will explore both at some time. Like grief itself there is no single way. |
